Survive What?

To some folks, "survival" refers to political survival, and they love to discuss the latest conspiracy theory over lunch. And now as the end of this millenium nears, we hear all sorts of "prophecies." We have heard that the U.N. is going to take over the U.S., that "they" are going to poison our water (hey, that's already the case -- ever heard of flouride? So why aren't we all taking to the streets?), that an Indian had a dream, that Nostradamus predicted this or that, or that a visionary heard "god" tell him something bad was going to happen, etc. etc.

The problem with some of the prophets of doom and gloom is that many of them are simply trying to sell their latest video, or unload warehoused merchandise. Such folks often have useful information, and valuable products, but there can be questionable motivation involved. We've heard that the owners of one large "survival" outlet store hope for "bad news" and earthquakes, etc., since the resulting fear boosts sales. We are also aware that many of their best selling items are virtually worthless, but people -- motivated by fear -- are buying the IDEAS used in clever marketing.

(Do unto others as you would have them do unto you)

SHOULD we be concerned about "something that's been predicted" or "something that's going to happen in the future"? Our perspective is that we are living in what is called End Times right now! This IS a dark age, a terrible time to live for the vast majority of Earthsurfacers, including many Americans. But we overlook the disasters all around us, while we worry about some future catastrophe. The simple fact is, certain diseases are rampant and spreading, right now. Parts of town are crime havens and unsafe for human habitation, right now. Criminal activity is growing more brutal, more common, (have we become used to it, by growing up with Dirty Harry, the Charles Bronson movies, and the like?). The moral decline in the "civilized world" is evidenced by the growing number of "leaders" and others in positions of responsibility living in degenerate and criminal patterns.

Our problems, our catastrophes, our disasters, our "Armageddons" are not predestined "Acts of God," but rather, they are the result of our own stupidity, our own ignorance, and our own failure to see where certain behavior leads, and to see where certain patterns invariably take us.

As Pogo said, "We have all met the enemy and he is us."
I hasten to add that EVERY skill mastered, and EVERY ability gained, and EVERY tool acquired is important to an intelligent lifestyle. And learning all we can about everything, including politics, economics, even prophecies, is part of intelligent living. But, most important, it's the WHY (and the HOW) we live that is
